Treasure Hill is a historical building and a village that gathers all kinds of art. It is an important cultural settlement in Taipei City.
About Treasure Hill
The name “Treasure Rock Settlement” comes from the neighboring temple “Treasure Rock”, also known as Guanyin Rock Tsai. The original meaning of “Yanzai” is a cave, which is extended to a temple on the side of the mountain. Treasure Rock is the mountainside Buddhist temple where the Guanyin Bodhisattva is worshipped, and it is the belief center of the local Anxi immigrants in Quanzhou. At the end of the 17th century, the Qing Dynasty officially ruled Taiwan, and the Hokkien people gradually migrated to Taiwan. Although the landing sites were mainly Tainan, Lukang, and Mengka, there are still a few Taipei mansions going up along the Xindian River. The treasure rock built on the hillside of Hukong Mountain was built by Guo Zhiheng and his children, one of the immigrants at that time.
History of Treasure Hill
Treasure Hill was originally an illegal building, but because the early illegal building regulations were not very strict, a settlement of military, civilian and socially disadvantaged people gradually formed nearby at that time. Until the 1990s, urban development accelerated, and the government began to demolish illegal buildings. However, after many protests by students and scholars, this place became the first “historic building” of the Taipei City Cultural Bureau’s settlement form.
Surrounding
This is a place that few people will pass by and pay attention to, because there is a large mansion business district nearby, but there are important historical settlements and monuments here.
First of all, the artworks displayed here are very creative. Like a cobra made up of various electronic parts, it is very realistic. There are also wood carvings placed here, which are super detailed, and the squirrel seems to be alive.
Then I went outside and saw the graffiti wall. Very nicely painted. It feels like telling a story.
Finally, I walked into the building, where some early furniture, stoves and the like are preserved. And there is also a projection screen to let you know the formation of this art settlement and its history.
I think this place is very similar to the kind of building in Korea, the kind of building on the middle of the mountain, I think it is very suitable to come here to shoot dramas or movies or something. This cultural and historical building is bound to need to be well protected.
